Welcome to web site of the Delaware County Historical Society! We invite you to visit us and explore
all our readily available resources for history buffs, students of all ages, genealogists, researchers, and
for you if you are simply interested in the history, people, events, culture and arts of Delaware County.
Founded in 1895, Delaware County Historical Society is the oldest historical society in Delaware County.
Its mission is to acquire, preserve and make available documentation of Delaware County history; to provide
and support educational programs on the history of Delaware County; and to publish materials relevant to
this history.
DCHS has two homes. Greenbank Farm in Marple and the historic old Delaware County National Bank building
in Chester. Greenbank Farm, 991 Palmers Mill Road, Media, is an historic farm site as well as home to some
of DCHS’s administrative and Passport to History offices. The Delaware County National Bank building, 408
Avenue of the States, Chester, is the new home of the DCHS research library, our museum collections, the Ethel
Sergeant Clark Smith Student Education Center and the ConocoPhillips computer laboratory.
Many collections are available to members and visitors alike who visit the library. Research services
are available to those who are unable to visit in person. Collections include artifacts, art, books, photographs,
postcards, newspapers, city directories, maps, county histories, business histories, local High School Year
Books and so much more
